Abstract

Active packaging is developed as a favorable method to address the challenge and prolong the shelf life of perishable foodstuffs while maintaining their freshness and quality. This abstract provides an overview of the active packaging systems and their roles in preserving food quality and safety. Active packaging incorporates various technologies, oxygen scavengers, moisture absorbers, antimicrobial agents, and flavor-release systems, within the packaging materials. These technologies actively interact with the food product to create a modified atmosphere or inhibit microbial growth, resulting in improved preservation and quality retention. Active packaging provides many benefits, including its ability to reduce food waste, enhance product safety, and meet consumer demands for convenience and sustainability. In inference, active packaging offers a favorable opportunity to enhance the shelf’s life of food products and maintain their freshness and quality.
